On Sunday, I held a Holiday Extravaganza Workshop and this 2012 CD Calendar is one of the projects we made. For this project you can use any stamp set appropriate to the featured month. Here's what mine looks like month by month...

Plane & Simple Happy Birthday Uncle Hector & CarolMarie...

Today is my Uncle's birthday as well as my Goddaughter, CarolMarie. Here's the card I made for my uncle and later this week I'll share the card I made for my Goddaughter. Masculine birthday cards can be a challenge and that's why I love this Stampin' Up!'s Plane and Simple stamp set.

 

The map part of this card was done by copying the map sheet from the Newsprint Designer Series Paper on to copy paper and hand-colored it in. For the water I used a "Pointillist" technique I used when I worked as a staff artist at the Wall Street Journal. Over the dots I used water-color pencils. I colored in the land with brown and olive green pencils. I then tore the top edge of the paper and mounted it on a piece of Old Olive Card Stock which was torn as well.

 

For the clouds, I used this technique with Whisper White Craft Ink over the Pool Party sky.

 I made cloud templates out of a piece of card stock by cutting small circles resembling cloud puffs as shown below. Yes, you have to hand cut these as a circle punch will not work because it will leave a concave form. These templates work as a mask except along the edges where I used a circular motion with my Dauber. The area underneath the template will remain the Pool Party. I randomly moved the template down and from side to side  and repeated the circular motion technique along the edge. When I painted years ago sometimes I used stencils in a similar manner. I hope this is clear. I'm hoping to do videos as soon as I get up enough nerve.

   

 The plane was stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla Card Stock and cut out. 

The Happy Birthday was stamped in Not Quite Navy Ink and I trimmed it close in a banner shape and swallow tailed the end.

Plane & Simple Masculine Birthday Card...

Hi, Stampers and Paper-Artists!

I don't know about you, but I always have trouble coming up with masculine cards.
